[WTF] A simple question spirals to nothing...

[[Oh, so you thought today would be a quiet one in the Weyr? Pfft, tough luck! Things may be quiet now, but very soon, things will spiral to a fever point...]]

It was night in the Weyr, things all silent and cloaked in the shroud of blackness. The dark tunnels below the weyrs held silence during the day and most often during the night, but tonight, they held something much more...sinister. The rasp of smooth skin on rough stone echoed throughout the passageways, and massive shapes moved, their sinuous coils sliding around corners.

Monolithic and ancient, serpentine forms flowed deep below the Weyr, occasional cries emerging from fanged maws awoke many that lay in their stone rooms. Only one knew what was happening, and he referred to the sources of the roars merely as 'them'. He was a senile old thing, and he had lived in Falmas for longer than anybody could remember.

Tonight, the Lower Caverns were 'theirs'. Who would dare approach to try and wrest back control?

The small ghost slowed to a halt in the belly of one monotonous dark tunnel, pulling back the generously spacious hood of its cloak to peer about in the dark. The silent sentential glared into the dark with wine colored eyes scanning the utter bleak of the hall, and ears pricking as another cry rang. It sent shivers up the young boy’s spine and a toothy grin spread over the imp’s face to a point of almost demonic resemblance. The young boy’s visage was quickly concealed once more as two thin hands dragged the hood back over his pale skin face and he drew the flapping lapels of the cloak tighter against his emaciated frame.

True, no boy should be out in the dark of night, but then, he was no boy to be contained. He moved deftly amongst the shadows and smirked beneath the dark fold of his hood as rounded a corner with warily expectant eyes. He was close now, he could feel in his bones, in the way his hands shook and his eyes darted, but the fear was so exulting to his twisted senses that he chuckled quietly to himself. As he neared the danger he was not so foolish as to walk around unarmed, and had pulled an ornate dagger from within the cloak, though it was clearly to fancy for a boy of his age to have simply purchased.

Stealthily he tucked himself close to the wall, and waited for another sign form the beast, while cold pricks ran down his spine. He chewed his lip for a moment then a snort rouse the tempo of his heart into a frantic tattoo, and his eyes darted blindly about with primitive fear.

The boy held his breath and gently he peeked around the tunnel’s maw and into the new one, and from the side of his scoping gaze caught a gruesome shadow. With frightening speed the young lad recoiled against the wall, the shadow burdened his imaginations with images of intruders that could only come of demonic heritage. He slumped against the wall and rubbed his temples with overwhelmed urgency, then steadying his nerves, peered around the corner once more. Fascination began to replace horror, and he started at the shadow with utter enrapture, gripping the side of tunnels maw only a few paces from the beasties.

A slender form reared an eyeless head up from the writhing mass of its brethren, turning to face the boy who had arrived. The snakelike creature hissed before drawing nearer, its pale hide dappled with bright blue markings that glowed faintly in the pitch blackness. The thing cocked its head as it investigated the boy, long black tongue flickering in and out. It reared back, looking as if it would bite, but then it lowered itself to the boy's eye level.

The form of the beast was long and thick, pure muscle wrapped around its bones and cloaked with smooth, pale skin. Where eyes would have been, there was merely smooth blankness, but it still seemed to see every movement, every twitch, every minuscule flick of movement put forth by the object of its scrutiny. With an imperious hiss, it wrapped itself around the boy, not in a crushing spiral, but in a luxurious embrace.

Sydon, well, he was wandering the tunnels for no particular reason. The man, in his early twenties, had gotten stuck down there for the night with having drawn or rather been assigned something like patrol duty in the Lower Caverns. In other words, spending several candlemarks in the dark with nothing more than a basket of glows and whatever he was carrying with him. Oh, fun. Oh, joy. Oh, how boring! And you know what? He hadn't seen anything fairly interesting in the whole sharding time he had been down here so far. Which had been about twenty minutes give or take. In other words, he was extremely bored at the point as he took a right turn and then a left and then another left, wandering the tunnels aimlessly. Looking around, he spotted... Crates... boxes.... oh, a loose rock over there... more crates... more boxes.... He took several more steps forward before spotting something out of the corner of his eye. Turning around, he looked and only saw a pile of crates. Okay, something was definitely up.... but what?

A sharp intake of air sounded from the small boy as one of the monsters lifted its head and stared right where he was poised. His body reacted immediately, every muscle springing taught and ready to flee at a seconds notice, but his mind was mesmerized as the blue flecked creature grew nearer. He was frozen in place as the creature slithered closer, black tongue darting in the shadows, and it’s faint iridescences was strangely beautiful for a demon of the dark pits.

The creature suddenly reared and Luktren bolted up right and stumbled back a few steps only to trip over the cloaks trailing edge and fall back onto his rear. He covered his face with a free hand and clutched the dagger with the other waiting for the shadow beast to maul him. As another moment dragged on the boy dared to open his eye a crack and see the beast looming over him but not in a threatening manner. He stared at the monsters head, finding no eyes on the pale skin, and feeling a bit more confident he rose to a crouch with dagger poised to stab if needed.

“I’m warnin’ you beastie, go away! I can kill you if I want, so just git!” He threaten and flashed the dagger for the beast’s eyeless scrutiny. The pale demon hissed and moved forward, slowly encircled the ratty boy in its muscular warmth. Luktren yelped and beat on the monster’s pale hide, a strange feeling growing within him so warm it started to burn like a flame, then a furnace. “HELP! It’s got me! It’s got me!” The boy yowled as he raked the dagger against the monster’s slender shoulder and soon it too roared with pain. So this is how it ends, eh? Getting burnt to death for the inside out by some blind beastie, the boy mused. Then Luktren began to whimper and cling to the monster’s pale hide piteously and whispered, “Please don’t eat me, monster.”

Slick and slim, another shape ghosted towards Sydon, this one's purpose much less benign than the one who had wrapped itself around Luk. This beast was a dark color with golden markings scrawled across its hide, and two red diamonds formed mock eyes on the blind head of the thing. It slowly curled its way around Sydon's feet, the massive weight and size of the creature immobilizing him. Pulling itself up to its proper height, this serpent thing hissed and bared knifelike fangs at the unfortunate Sydon before whirling around to dig them into a smaller, dark purple and blue shape that had been making its way towards the pair. The smaller beast let out a screeching cry of pain, and the beast around Sydon lashed out once, twice more, killing the other quickly and painfully. It devoured the twisted and bloodied form of the smaller with quick flicks of its head, the dark blood splashing onto its muzzle and across Sydon.

The beast turned to face Sydon before smacking the basket of glows out of his hand with its broad tail.

Shaking the feeling something or someone was watching him, he took a few steps towards the pile of crates before seeing that nothing apparently was there. Okay, that was definitely creepy and well, more interesting than anything that had been happening so far. Turning back around, he suddenly saw this great sepernt-like animal, something close to what a tunnelsnake looked like. It was some dark color with golden markings and two red diamonds in place where the eyes would be. The basket of glows enabled him to actually see what the creature looked like in the dark before it suddenly crept up his legs and he couldn't move, due to the sheer size of the beast.

The man gulped once. Okay, this was -too- interesting and rather dangerous. Well, he had wished for something to happen and his wish had come true. Only now, he wished that he had had several boring candlemarks down in the Lower Caverns. Flinching as much as he could when trapped as the creature hissed and bared its fangs at him, he was definitely wary of what this creature was doing. As it killed a smaller one of the creatures, he could only watch, fansitcated and freaked out at the same time. Kind of like what happens when someone was watching a scary movie. Only this was no movie and as blood spilled across his chest, his eyes widdened.

"N-nice tunnel-snake t-thing," he said before it smacked the basket of glows out of his hand. "Shards! I needed that!" Sydon protested as the glows spilled all across the floor and cast the tunnel in some kind of eerie light. Maybe not the smartest idea to yell at a creature that was keeping him trapped. Oh, well. Too late.

The blue-marked serpent beast bellowed its pain, rearing back with a frightened hiss, somehow managing to look sorry, despite its lack of any real ability to express itself via its face. A bit of dark blood spilled out of the slice, flowing onto Luktren.

Why do you hurt Yours? What did Ssgaruln do?

A soft whimper entered Luktren's mind, horribly faint and barely audible. Ssgaruln bowed his head and seemed to shake a little, as if displaying its submission. The massive tunnelsnake beast flicked its head to both sides, looking for any others that would pose a threat to the safety of His before going back to showing that Luktren was completely dominant.

Bonds to Luktren (Taesil)

Appearance: A rather large Sky, Ssgaruln will probably grow to be about 25 feet in length, and will definitely be bigger around than others of his coloration. He's very muscular and lithe, something that goes well to his advantage, as he's often slithering his way into a safe corner. The markings are typically dim, but when he gets into a dark place, they flare into life, glowing softly and very entrancingly. In motion, he's extremely fluid and acrobatic, as much as something without legs can be.

Personality: Ssgaruln is a very fearful and timid example of his species, and he can be a bit of a coward sometimes. He's extremely careful and tries his best not to go against the wishes of His, no matter what. Ssgaruln is definitely a pushover, and is always looking out for Luktren's safety. He refuses to let anything bad happen to His, even if it hurts him, and he's also horribly naive and gullible.

Mindvoice: Very soft and gentle, some have to do a double take to make sure that it's actually Ssgaruln speaking and not something else. His voice is all to easily turned to a whimper, but it quickly gains a cold, ferocious edge when he's been tricked or His has been hurt.

Meanwhile, the darker beast that had chosen Sydon as its perch coiled closer, its cold breath tickling the side of the man's neck as it slowly tightened its grip. But it wasn't going to kill him, oh no, it had much different plans in mind for this one...

You might be fun....now why shouldn't I kill you? A deep, imperious....and decidedly female....voice crept into Sydon's head, cold and vicious. It would send chills down the spine of anyone who heard it, and the tunnelsnake beast bared her bloodied fangs in a sort of malicious grin.

As the creature slithered closer to his face, Sydon realized the mistake he had made. Great. One was supposed to stay still if approached by a strange creature and he had gone and yelled at it. Well, he was dead now most likely. As it tightened its grip, he attempted to steady his breathing and relax. That wasn't working too well as he was more than slightly freaked out at the tunnelsnake thing...

You might be fun....now why shouldn't I kill you?

Wait. What?!? It... she had just spoke to him as she revealed her blood-covered fangs at him. Okay, so it was intelligent. Intelligent as any dragon or wher and that meant she deserved respect, even if her voice did creep him out a bit.

"Well," he started, "I suppose it depends on what you truly need or want more. If you're looking for a meal, I probably wouldn't be that great of one and you'd find better food at the corrals." Yeah, Sydon was saying whatever was coming to his mind but his blathering did have a point to it. "If you are looking for someone to point a way out of these blasted caverns and the Weyr, I could probably do that with no problem. And if you're looking for entrainment, well, it depends on what you see as entertaining, really. And if you're looking for a companion, well, I don't know if you want me for one or not. So, really, it's your choice what you do. I'm stuck with whatever you find suits you more." With that, he fell silent, wondering what the tunnelsnake creature would decide.

A dark laugh reverberated in Sydon's head, sinister and downright creepy. The tunnelsnake beast coiled tight for a second, delighting in the cracking of bones under her coils. She didn't go tight enough to break anything, but it was definitely enough to scare the crap out of Sydon if he hadn't been expecting it.

Another one of the beasts, this time one of green and gray, drew near to Sydon's tormentor, bigger than her by far.

Nngorln, back off of this one. You will do nothing but kill him.

Nngorln, as the darker tormentor was identified as, whirled to face the green and gray beast that outclassed her. Elyln, this one is mine! She hissed, baring her fangs once more. She recoiled and started to wind herself tighter around Sydon as Elyln drew nearer.

Leave him, now! Elyln bellowed, accompanied by a vicious roar that sent Nngorln slithering for cover. The great beast came close to Sydon as well, but he kept his distance. I must apologize for Nngorln's behavior--she always did enjoy pain too much. He paused. Well then, shall we be off? I fear things will get to be less than pleasant if we continue to remain here.

Verdant Elyln
Bonds to Sydon (Eyota)

Appearance: Elyln is simply massive, hands down. He's quite possibly the largest tunnelbeast you'll ever see, and will grow to a flooring length of about 37 feet. He's very slim and long, with an elegant and poised appearance. His markings don't glow like some of the others, but there are many swirls and spirals that are almost hypnotic if stared at for long enough.

Personality: This one is as sharp as a tack, and displays it with his refined manner. He's horribly polite and quite the gentleman, and Elyln has enough patience to last from armageddon and back. He has a very slow-to-ignite temper, and even then, rather than injure others, he will simply turn his anger into energy and go at whatever it is with even more fervor than before. Elyln is an elegant, cultured mind and is impossibly deep, which is all the more startling considering he grew up in the lower tunnels of Falmas with absolutely no human contact. He's rather solitary at times and can be quite terse as well.

Mindvoice: If elegance had a voice, it would be Elyln's. It is simple, smooth and slick, exactly what he needs for his lofty verbalization. He definitely sounds like a highbrow scholar or philosopher, and his wording is more Shakespearean at times than anyone would have thought possible.

Luktren's shrieks suddenly quelled as a soft whisper of a voice enter penetrated closely gaurded thoughts. His eyes grew wide as he realized the voice was not his own but surely could not belong to this terrible demon. The whisper had been soft like the tickle of a breeze and more suprising to him was that the voice sounded sorry. Unsure of what to do he went to finger the edge of his cloack as he often did when torn by emotions, but the hand brushed a dark sticky patch from the beastie's blood.

"Y-you came after me! I ain't done nothin and you came at me!" He whimpered and tightened his hand on the dagger. The creature was smart enough to speak like a dragon, but he'd never met anything like it before. Truely only in the panic had he hurt the snake, and the fear ebbed to give way to reason, or atleast some pity. "Why do you care 'bout me, Ssgaruln? Why d'ya care! No one cares 'bout me." He yelled with frustration, for he had never let anyone see his thoughts and now here a blind snake simple pryed open all his defenses and peered into his soul! But whats more is that this creature, this tunnel monster, cared about him.

It watched the others in the writhing mass and curled it's head in submission, to him, a mere lad! With growing confidence he reached out and tentitivly stroked the snake's nose, feeling the smoothing hide beneath his fingers, then gave it a reassuring pat. "Forgive me 'Gurln, I-I didn't know that you weren't plannin' on eating me." He muttered in a softened voice then embraced the smooth head agianst his thin chest. "I'm glad you care Ssgaruln. You're such a pretty monster."

Oh hey, look. More darkness. Good stuff.

Alyectan wandered about the dark Caverns bent on exploration. There were some nifty rumors, and a crazy old man, that pointed to something of extreme interest down here. The girl was maybe 15, a small lithe form that has seen puberty but hasn't bothered to yet show it. This form was wrapped in dark cloth, trying to disguise herself in the inky black

She was looking for a nice little nook she could hide herself and stay awhile. Set up a little camp, even. Someplace she could keep to herself away from others

But then, there was that noise. Her curiosity drove her towards it. She found a dropped glow, and then upon a much more startling sight. Two people wrapped in snake-like creatures. A third came out of a... writhing mass and fought one for the man it was wrapped around Alyectan was frozen in fear. She had never seen anything like this before. Crap.

He barely knew why he was going down there, curiosity pulling him forwards and yet he wanted to run like Thread was falling at his heels. No, that was no way to think! He was strong, and powerful, a man of nineteen Turns had nothing to fear from creatures such as these! They wanted to cause terror! He would show them he wasn't scared of them! He was strong, as he'd said, smart, intelligant - wait, didn't they mean the same thing? - and most importantly...most importantly...Oh Faranth he was scared half the way to death and back. Which, and this was only techincally, was the whole way there, only without the coming back part...Only half way and back, yup, only half way, definately half way. So! He was going to charge in there with sword held high - though it was more of a really small dagger he'd managed to get hold of, who knew people were so careless? Leaving a dangerous object like this lying around - and make them leave!

Or he thought he was. Taln choked slightly at he stared at them, and the other people there. They were like, like, like...Tunnelsnakes? How did that work exactly? Did a Wher and one of the critters have a secret affair and sprout of these love children? Now that, would have been very funny, but not appropriate as he fought back snorts of laughter, dagger held in front of him like some sort of deadly weapon. Which it wasn't. It could barely hold a sharp edge, let alone do any real damage. Was he going to let that phase him? Yes! Wait...No! He meant no, really. He wasn't scared at all...That thing over there wrapped around the boy was tiny...Faranth who was he kidding? He was terrified.

He could see the blue on next to someone...and a green and grey one...and a really evil dark grey one, covered in yellow. How did he know it was evil? Well...It had just been wrapped around someone, supposidly squeezing the life out of him, a moment ago. He should leave...Soon. He dind't want to attract attention, so standing there like a blind wherry ought to make him as incon...inconspic...invisible as possible.

Nngorln, not to be outdone by her sibling, whirled to face the nearest human that had entered...this being the unlucky Alyectan. The dark tunnelbeast growled her fury at losing her first toy before moving quick as a flash to Alyectan's side, gingerly wrapping her long tail around one of her legs.

Yesssss, another suitable? Do you think you have the guts to be mine? As she said the word 'guts', Nngorln tightened her tail, enjoying the feel of flesh under her scales. And you, you will not be taken by anyone else, no. Nngorln will not accept failure....Mine.

Bonds to Alyectan (SOCR)

Appearance: Nngorln isn't very big for her color, but she's built like a tank--a rather large, rather intimidating tank with fangs. Her hide retains traces of her sinister nature, what with its mock eyes of crimson and the tarnished golden markings that sparkle just the faintest in the sunlight. Her most notable feature is her teeth, as she bares them a lot--and man are they big. She could easily chomp somebody's arm off, and like as not, she'd enjoy it too.

Personality: Vicious and bloodthirsty, this tunnelbeast is a masochist who loves inflicting pain on anything. She's manipulative and cunning, and can easily bend somebody to her will without much effort. Nngorln is horribly vain and brash, and her temper is impossibly short. Grudges are held for an insanely long time with this one, and she'll never forget when she's been crossed. She's twisted, vindictive, and loves to fight, and will probably start more than her fair share of them along the way. She's also a bit of a cannibal, and will frequently take trips back down to the Lower Caverns to feast on some of the smaller and more unlucky tunnelbeasts.

Mindvoice: Deep, dark, rich, and sensuous, Nngorln actually has quite a pleasant mindvoice. It's smoky and can change from screaming rage to subtle laughter in the blink of an eye. She's always kind of loud, though.

The young apothecary bumbled in the dark, blind from the lack of light and from the tears that pricked in his usually jolly eyes. He whimpered softly, lifting a hand to his face to clear the water from his eyes, the placed it over his crushed heart. Yes, yet another time had he been shunned by the lovely of his dreams, so he found himself wandering the halls for the silent comfort of solitude. He had ignored the elder’s ramblings while attempting to swoon his prospected lady, alas to no avail.

Suddenly the tang of blood reached his nose, and being a healer he very easily detected this odor. He stared into the dark depths for a moment, indecisively eyeing the tunnel, before decided there was nothing to lose and bolted head-first to the source of the all too familiar scent. His lanky limbs carried him swiftly while one spidery hand deftly flicked open the satchel at his waist, and sought out the top of a corked bottle containing a thick and potent concoction of numbweed. But as he rounded the corner, expecting some sort of man duel, he skidded to a halt and his mouth fell in a shocked awe at the scene before his feet.

The shroud of darkness made the squirming mass seem all the more dense and from his blue eyes he saw a few of the long demons were even curled about some unlucky victims. He backed away a few steps but was so horrifically mesmerized by the ordeal he was frozen still after only two stumbling paces. Tintone mouth opened and closed wordlessly slowly working his jaw muscle until he managed to mutter, “Oh dear Faranth.”

His trance was broken after that and his professional thinking took over his thoughts that were ridden with primitive fear. By the looks of it these monsters were Impressing like dragons and seemed fairly intelligent too. He saw a few worms had impressed, one lay in a bloody pulp, and one of the impressed was wounded by what looked like a dagger inflicted cut. Trotting over to the cloaked boy he placed the numbweed down and quickly recoiled incase the snake decided to bite. Tintone cast a gaze around while every nerve in his body was tense with adrenaline and fear, but still it was much better than mourning his lost love.
