[[22 eggs, one dud, one unknown. 24 total.]]
The slender golden bulk that was Durelaith lay curled serenely about the clutch of fifteen that she had laid the day before. Night had fallen, and the senior Queen slept peacefully on the warm sands, both black and white grains sticking to her glistening golden hide. Vaien was asleep nearby, and both Queen and rider were out for the count.
Which was exactly what Gorheilith wanted.
Slipping in from between with the elegance and icy grace that she had always had, the Shattered Queen couldn't resist casting the sleeping form of her sister a snide draconic grin. True, Gorheilith could kill her now and be done with it, but where would the fun in that be? And anyway, it would awaken the entire weyr, and even though Gorheilith was powerful, she couldn't take on every single dragon and rider that Falmas possessed. No, she would wait, and silently slip in a little gift of her own into Durelaith's Clutch.
It was quite obvious that the pale golden Queen was egg-heavy. She had been caught by a fine Shattered Bronze, Uulacanth himself, and the 'gifts' she would be giving her sister would be very entertaining indeed. Gorheilith made sure to keep Durelaith and Vaien fast asleep while she laid her eggs and silently slipped them in with Durelaith's own before doing a bit of mental reconstruction to the memories of both Weyrwoman and Queen about the exact number of eggs that had been laid. Gorheilith even went so far as to rub the eggs with Durelaith's scent so that they would remain safe and hidden. With that final deed, the Shattered Evermind flicked back between, leaving Vaien and Durelaith blissfully unaware of what had just taken place.
The Clutch had been laid.
