Entheos watched the murky waters of the lake through his bug eyed lens as they lapped at the sandy shore and soak through the leather of his boots. He shook his foot absent mindedly and lifted his gaze to the sky with was an ominous grey and accompanied by a brisk breeze that he assumed would herald a storm. He smiled with gratitude for his good fortune as this weather was perfect for what he had planned! Eagerly he groveled around in his pocket until his hand found a ball of twine and he pulled a diamond shaped parchment with two flaps on either side from within his cloak. His face contorted in concentration ad he hooked a string to the center of the parchment’s wooden frame and two on the joints with preciously tight knots. Then brandishing the object to the wind he tossed the kite into the air and watched it catch the air like a dragon’s wing. Good it’s staying stable, Entheos noted happily. Now time for some test!
With a long arm he gave the line a few sharp tugs and watched the kite’s wing like appendages twitch with according movements. Entheos thrummed satisfactorily to himself as his little dragon resembling kite took so well to the air. Excited by his good start the lanky lad bounded a few steps back before scrutinizing his invention’s maneuverability and adjusting the strings until he deemed it worthy enough for a test trick. He suddenly gave the kite a bunch of slack so it dipped dangerously close to the water’s surface, then at the precipice of its demise the tall lad reeled in the line so the kite tilted upwards and maneuvered into an artful arch. Ah, wonderful! He puffed proudly then let the kite gain high altitude in preparations for another aerial feat. This time he brought the kite into a nose dive on a set collision course with the churning water. He watched the kite hopefully but his reaction was too slow and the kite splashed down into the water and submersed beneath the churning waves. Though the failure did not truly pester him the lad heaved discontented sigh. What a shame, and the weather was perfect too! He shook his head with dismay before hunkering down on the sandy beach he reeled in the waterlogged device and began to tinker with the kite’s joints.

With a wide, wolfish grin coloring her features, Kylian strode down towards the shore of the lake, laughing every few seconds as she thought again of how mad her father was going to be. Oh, it was so funny how he thought she was going to actually get him his meal after their little spat in his weyr. Really. He'd just told her she wasn't going to go flying with Rell today, and he expected her to get his food? He'd tried to give her the excuse that it was too dangerous; Shattered had been seen from the heights.... Yeah, like she was going to take that as an excuse. She'd been through lots with Relarventh, and one little Shattered spotting shouldn't stop the favorite part of her day. Of course, she'd tried going around her daddy and talking to the bronze about it, but he was having none of it; in fact, at one point he tuned her out! Oh well. When Mr. Weyrleader went hungry, he'd think about what he'd done and feel guilty. For what, she really couldn't point out, but payback was just great, wasn't it?
Finally, as she walked she noticed Entheos, one of the other candidates, and his attempt at kite-flying. It was pretty funny, actually, but she didn't want to laugh at the kite's sudden descent... If anything, she wanted to try it herself. Picking up her pace, Kylian flipped her dreadlocks back behind her with one hand and moved towards him, stopping once she got within a couple of feet of him. "Hey.. Entheos, right? I'm Kylian... but you already know that, I'm sure." She started laughing again, the sound a light, innocent pealing that was amazingly deceptive."What are you doing? Did you make that yourself? It looks neat." If he could read between the lines at all, he'd recognize her interest and request, without her actually having to come out and say it. She was about to add something, but a brown firelizard blinked out of between just then, landing on her shoulder and chattering irritably. Of course, her father's little watchdog, Raja, would have to find her... Kylian was sure he was going to go darting back to D'ron and tell him all about Kylian's whereabouts. Annoyed, she shrugged him off just as he sent a mental picture of her father's quarters, and warbling at her he then disappeared into between again, leaving her muttering, "Suck-up..."

Entheos was absorbed in his work as usual with his spidery fingers flicking along the kite's joints and connecting the string to the frame. Should one have seen his face it would be quite comical, for his tounge was caught between his teeth, his magnified irises were narrowed with conentration, and his brow was furrowed in deep thought. With desisive deft movments he tightened up a few more of the knots and gave his kite a fond expression as he held it before his eyes for examination. Ah, that should work better, more contol and range of manuvers, he exulted. He ran a finger over one of the hide 'wings' and noted it was just a tad to damp for another go just yet, but the wind would make quick work of that.
Just as he was about to send the kite aloft once more the girl's voice reached his ears, sending him into rigid stiffness with timid wide eyes. Turning his head around to face the approching lady Enteos gave her a soft grin, with a blush rising on his pale cheeks. "Oh, um... h-hello Kylian. I've uh... h-h-heard quite a bit about you." He sputtered shyly and avoided refencing just where he had heard of her, for kitchen gossip didn't always prove true. As she laughed his huddled his head between his narrow shoulders, agaisnt the wind and her presence.
"Thanks, it's a k-kite. I based it off the dragons" He answered and waved a hand towards the dragon's Weyrs. He didn't want to mess with this girl that much he was sure of, and the way her tone he was easy coplient to her subtle demand. Timidly he held the kite out to her while keeping a firm hold on the strings that tightened in his hand as the kite was fluttered the strong breeze. His eyes flew wide and he cringed one more as a firelizard popped into exsistence above their heads for a breath of a moment before disapearing again. "Y-your dad's?" He asked quietly and hoped that the girl hadn't done anything to pester the Weyrleader.

As he spoke, Kylian actually listened intently, fascinated as she was by the kite and its design. She was grateful, too, as he held it out to her, and with reverent, still hands she took it and gently moved it around so she could see it from all angles. She was about to comment on it when he asked about Raja, and nodding quickly she answered. 'Yeah, that's Raja. He's my father's watchdog, messenger, enforcer, and self-appointed guard. You can bet he just went screeching back to my daddy, telling him of my wherabouts." After she'd gotten that out she remained silent again, her attention solely on the intricate designs of the kite. "You did a good job on it," she replied, ignoring his stuttering. The Weyrleader's daughter was just thankful he hadn't run away screaming, and now that he'd let her see the kite she was determined to be nice to him, if only to repay back the favor.
When she was finally finished with her intense studying of the kite, she looked back up and smiled at him, this one a genuine grin. Oh, this looked to be fun, and a welcoming distraction at that, but now that she'd given it a hard once-over Kylian didn't want to try and fly it right away, because the last thing she wanted to do was to mess up the kite. Handing it back to Entheos, her light blue eyes glimmered happily as she asked, "Would you mind teaching me how to fly one of these things? Maybe, even show me how to make one. I'm jealous..." The last part was said with a wry grin, but hey, she was honest.

As she took the kite from him he was slightly confused as what to do with his empty hands and began to fiddle with his thumbs. He cast a quick shay glance into her eyes fully expecting scorn or a barrage of mockeries but his glance left him feeling that she was actually fascinated by it as she gently shifted it so to better observe it. He nervously bowed his head between his narrow shoulders and silently listened as she spoke of her father’s firelizard.”Oh. Well he s-seems well trained… they can be quite useful when they’re t-trained right.” He awkwardly replied in the defense of the little brown lizard, his last note holding a brief wistful air. Silently he prayed the girl wasn’t messing around and being rotten to her father. His mind quickly calculated an escape plan and list of excuses for being outside his room like he would if he were still at his Uncle’s. A lady in such high power surely should never be seen talking to the low classes like him? What if the Weyrleader himself came down! He shivered fearfully but tilted his head as she stated something about his kite, it sounded like a complement from what he’d caught of it and a bright flush rose against his sallow cheeks. “T-thanks.”
He quickly grasped the kite as she extended it and chewed his lip as he saw her eyes glimmer and her grin shift wryly. Her wish seemed innocent enough to him though, and he would never deny the Weyrleader’s daughter a request, or anyone for that matter. With a grin he nodded then rose to his feet and brushed some of the sand of his pants before nodding. Another blush rose on his face as he noted how much taller he was then her, but so was the curse of his line. “S-sure, anyone can make them, it’s the flying part that takes time to learn. I still haven’t quite figured it out yet.” He replied then rubbed his chin thoughtfully as he began to run through a list of improvements that would be needed on the next model. “Oh, um, how about I get it into the air and stable then you can give it a go?” He asked as he realized she was still standing beside him.
